How to Read this Catalog

Within each gene summary there are a few main categories of information:

The protein: A very brief description of the function of the protein. Very closely related proteins with essentially the same function but different expression patterns may be mentioned.

Nucleotide sequences: Citations and database accession numbers for genomic or cDNA sequence data.

When and where the gene is expressed: A brief summary of the conditions under which the gene is known to be expressed, or conditions known to affect transcription.

Transcriptional regulatory regions: Here all regions of the genome known to be involved in the regulation of the gene are described.

Transcription factor binding sites. Grouped by regulatory regions, all known transcription factor binding sites are described, and evidence is summarized concerning the cognate transcription factors and their in vivo functional role.

The transcription event. Finally, the synergy of the various factors and DNA binding sites in the overall event of transciption initiation is discussed.
