Purpose of This Site

This site presents a summary of published information on muscle-specific transcriptional regulation. Eventually we hope to include all genes known to be either up- or down-regulated in any type of muscle tissue. The current short term goal is to include all genes known to be up-regulated in skeletal muscle.

The data from the research literature is only summarized. The aim is to provide a reference work that allows one to quickly find answers to questions such as "Has anyone shown that myogenin plays a role in the regulation of MRF4 expression?" or "What is the minimal promoter region for the myogenin gene that still gives muscle-specific expression?" In general, enough of the experimental evidence is summarized to (1) give the reader a fairly comprehensive idea of the kinds of work that has been done, and (2) direct the reader to those papers most relevant for answering more detailed question.
