Two sample applications--"AnnotView" and "BlastView"--have been built using the bioWidget component toolkit. The bioWidget toolkit uses Sun's JavaBeans^TM component architecture for Java^TM. In this workshop we demonstrate how such applications can be interactively constructed in a graphical application builder, using Sun's JavaStudio^TM as an example of such a tool. The links below are to static images of the JavaStudio^TM "designs" (i.e. wiring diagrams) used in the workshop; these include the top-level designs for the two applications and also the designs for any "composite" components used.

bioWidget Applications

• BlastView
  Supports interactive analysis of BLAST query results.
• AnnotView
  Displays an annotated sequence (nucleic or amino acid).

BlastView Composite JavaBeans^TM

• BlastView_IO
  Retrieves and parses BLAST data from a file or CGI server.
• BlastView_clustal
  Performs a multiple alignment using a remote ClustalW server.
• BlastView_beauty
  Retrieves protein family and motif information from BEAUTY.
• BlastView_align
  Coordinates BlastView's multiple alignment services.
• BlastView_selection
  Displays additional information for selected items.
• BlastView_views
  Manages the main BlastView display.
• BlastView_controllers
  Permits selective filtering of the displayed data.
• BlastView_inferred
  Computes a multiple alignment based on pairwise BLAST alignments.

  Retrieves sequence and annotation (i.e. features) from a database.
