Beta Cell Biology Consortium ends

On August 1, 2015, the Beta Cell Biology Consortium (BCBC) came to an end. Started in 2001 to understand beta cell biology and how to make beta cells, the BCBC provided information and access to its resources through the web site. The Beta Cell Genomics component was based at CBIL and provided data mining of gene expression, epigenetic, and transcription factor binding datasets. The information previously found at those sites is now summarized in a Resource Catalog and all and URLs resolve to the Catalog.

Ontology for Biobanking is now a GitHub project

The Ontology for Biobanking (OBIB) has been set up as a GitHub project at
The first release of the OBIB is called: biobank-omiabis_merged.owl
Presentations from the ICBO 2014 Workshop on Starting an OBI-based Biobank ontology are also available.

Biobank ontology workshop at ICBO 2014

We will be conducting a workshop with Mathias Brochhausen (U. Arkansas) and Melissa Haendel (OHSU) on Starting an OBI-based Biobank Ontology at the 2014 International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies (ICBO) being held in Houston this October.

Jie Z. and Chris S. attended the International Conference on Biomedical Ontology / Formal Ontology in Information Systems hosted by the Medical University of Graz in Austria.
